The 'Min' Fanglei coming back

With the concerted efforts made by various agencies and companies in Hunan Province and collection enthusiasts, ‘Min’Fanglei will soon come back to its original “home town” Hunan, and it will be permanently collected by the Hunan Provincial Museum. It is said that Christie has facilitated a private sale on March 19 after a close consultation with the current owner of the ‘Min’ Fanglei, allowing the vessel to reunite with the lid from which it was separated nearly a century ago.

A delegation of 17 local experts and collectors recently left Hunan for New York for the transfer. The group will fetch the vessel from Christie's on June 12 and return on June 14 to Changsha, the capital of Hunan, where the museum is located.

To honor the reunion of the bronze vessel and its long-separated lid, Hunan will host a celebration on June 25, Chen said.
