Foreigners who made the headlines in 2013

A goodbye to the year 2013 will not be complete without a look back at the foreigners in the news. There are the weird and the wonderful, the ingenious and the inglorious, the famous and the ordinary. Despite rumors that China's horrendous smog will force the foreigners away, they still rush to this new land of opportunity and make it a stage for their various adventures.

The Weird

It is perfectly fine to sit in meditation. And it is OK to do it in your birth suit in the comforts of your home, if that's the way you prefer. But it is not OK if you choose to do it out on the street. And that is exactly what this young Russian man did at the intersection of Haikou, capital city of China's Hainan province on September 15, 2013. Photo:




Well, this is might not be considered “weird” by some people as it was part of the annual event called “No Pants Subway Ride”. But hey, this is China. So it is still pretty weird as the only people doing it are foreigners. This is how the expats in Shanghai celebrated the “No Pants Day” on January 13, 2013.
