The Communist Party of China’s (CPC) decision to add “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” to its Constitution on Tuesday has profound historical, theoretical, political and practical meaning, as well as huge significance to the world, said Han Qingxiang, committee member of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, in an interview with the sino-us.com on Tuesday.

“As new thought often heralds a new era and a new era nurtures new thought, the incorporation of Xi Thought into the Constitution of CPC has a significant historic meaning,” said Han.

During the opening ceremony of the 19th CPC National Congress last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the central contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved from "the ever-growing material and cultural needs of the people and backward social production" to "unbalanced and inadequate development and the people's ever-growing needs for a better life."

“The birth of Xi Thought is aimed at solving the new social contradiction,” said Han, adding that the Xi Thought is the latest achievement of applying Marxism to the Chinese context.

Including Xi Thought into the CPC Constitution can also help to further unite the Party members, enhance confidence and better discipline the Party itself, Han noted.

Beyond that, the Xi Thought which regards the world as “a community of common destiny”, also focuses on some very urgent global issues like world peace and development, and global governance.

“Xi Thought contributes a ‘China solution’ and Chinese wisdom to global issues,” Han added.
