The rise of China's international influence can be attributed to its efforts to fulfil its global responsibility and promote international exchanges, a Party official said on Friday.

Sun Zhijun, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference held on the sidelines of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Sun's statement was a response to an American reporter, who asked whether China had invested much in building soft power and global publicity to enhance its international clout.

"Facing the complicated international situation, China has been exploring a development path that is suitable to the national conditions, creating a 'Chinese miracle'. Secondly, China has practically performed its responsibility as a big power. The proposals of the Belt and Road initiative and the common community of human destiny not only contribute greatly to the global economy but are also beneficial to the efforts to combat climate change and maintain cyber security. Thirdly, China has strengthened international media cooperation by promoting international cultural and people-to-people exchanges," Sun said.

Sun stressed that China will build a new type of international relations with foreign countries especially the United States to promote the diversity of civilization.

When answering questions about the Belt and Road initiative, Sun said that with the help of the policy, China had signed more than 300 cultural cooperation agreements with countries along the Belt and Road.

According to statistics released at the press conference, as of the end of 2016, the value of China's cultural industry amounted to 3 trillion yuan, accounting for 4.1 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
