Xi Jinping and six other newly elected members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee have made a group debut in Beijing.

At just before noon on Wednesday, Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, unveiled the new line-up of the politburo standing committee, the Party's most powerful body, at the Great Hall of the People's Eastern Lobby filled with more than 500 reporters and cameramen from home and abroad.

After the welcoming address by Tuo Zhen, spokesperson for the 19th National Congress of the CPC, Xi led his top team out into a blaze of camera flashes in a line with Xi standing at the center.

Joining Xi and Premier Li Keqiang on the elite committee are Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng.

Li Keqiang was a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 18th CPC Central Committee, and the other five were members of the Political Bureau of the 18th CPC Central Committee, Xi told the press in an address that marks the formal start of his second term.

"We will work diligently to meet our duty, fulfill our mission and be worthy of the trust," Xi said in Wednesday's address, outlining his vision for what he called the "new era" of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

"Through long-time efforts, the socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era when we need to take new actions," Xi said, adding that the next five years between the 19th Party congress and the 20th Party congress will provide a historical period the Party could use to achieve the two centennial goals.

Xi also stressed in the address that China will finish building the moderately prosperous society by 2020, a year after which the CPC will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party.

Except for leading the people in a great social revolution, Xi also said that the CPC has the ability to make self-revolution, as the Party has become the world's largest political party.

Five years ago when he was elected as the general secretary of the CPC, Xi put emphasis on "responsibility" in a similar speech that narrated the major tasks of the then core leadership.

Since 2012, Xi has launched a sweeping anti-corruption campaign, started the work of comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society and strived to reach the goals of revitalizing the Chinese national and realizing the Chinese dream, with a mission to "leading the people to live a better life".
