Itinerary

  • Five state governors will meet Chinese provincial heads before meeting President Xi Jinping. The meeting focuses on clean energy technology and economic cooperation.
  • Xi Jinping will visit Boeing's Paine Field. This year about one-quarter of the planes Boeing has built have gone to China.
  • Xi will visit Lincoln High School in Tacoma which established sister-city relationship with China’s Fuzhou in 1994 when Xi was leader of Fuzhou.
  • On the US side, chief executives Tim Cook of Apple, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Satya Nadella of Microsoft and investor Warren Buffett are among those attending. Those attending from China include Jack Ma of Alibaba and Robin Li of the web-services firm Baidu.
  • US President Barack Obama will greet Xi Jinping with a 21-gun salute. It is Xi’s first state visit to US since he became president in 2013.
  • Xi will meet with leaders of Senate and House of Representatives.
  • Xi will attend a UN women’s summit and deliver a keynote speech.
  • Xi will attend summit marking 70th anniversary of UN.
